Pax Autocratica Soldiers: Colony Jobs and Combat Roles
Learn how Pax Autocratica soldiers support colony jobs, resource transport, expedition preparation, and first-person combat.
This site is an independent fan-made guide and is not affiliated with Multiverse. Pax Autocratica is developed and published by Multiverse. For official information, visit the Steam page and official website.
Soldiers support more than combat. Steam information connects them with job assignments, Resource Transport Stations, hauling, positioning, following, and expedition preparation, so moving soldiers into combat can also affect colony logistics.

Pax Autocratica Review - Colony Sim Meets FPS Roguelite
Channel: I Dream of Indie Games · Early Access review
- 00:00–00:27 two connected halves
- 01:53–02:09 risk and survey
- 04:30–05:22 base loop
- 05:22–06:00 interface friction
- The review separates colony preparation from field risk, then shows why they are connected.
- It is useful for locating the loop, not for deriving exact build or staffing rules.
- Interface and performance comments are one reviewer's build- and device-specific experience.
Soldiers have two jobs
Soldiers connect the colony and expedition loops. They can matter for combat preparation, but Steam update notes also place them in work assignments and Resource Transport Station tasks.
This creates a real trade-off: assigning more soldiers to colony logistics may improve resource flow, while preparing more for deployment may reduce available labour at the base.
Soldiers inside the colony
Steam News refers to soldier auto-assignment and work-assignment logic. It also describes soldiers assigned to Resource Transport Stations collecting and moving materials from other resource buildings.
When colony work stalls, check whether soldiers are:
- Assigned to the intended building or transport role
- Occupied by another task
- Available after expedition preparation
- Waiting for a source building to produce materials
- Blocked by an unlock or transport upgrade
Resource transport
If materials remain at a producer, inspect the Resource Transport Station and its staffing. Upgrades can affect direct delivery toward the Warehouse, so progression may matter as much as raw soldier count.
Read Workers for the complete assignment checklist and Warehouse Not Working when the symptom is storage or delivery.
Preparing soldiers for expeditions
Before deploying, confirm that the colony can continue its essential production and transport work. Then check equipment, supplies, research, and the current objective.
Avoid treating one fixed squad composition as permanent. Exact weapon balance, equipment value, and expedition requirements can change during Early Access. Use current in-game descriptions and dated gameplay references.
Follow and positioning behaviour
Steam update notes mention changes to following and positioning, which means older videos may show behaviour that no longer matches the current build.
If soldiers do not follow or position as expected:
- Confirm the current assignment and command state.
- Test with fewer units and a simple route.
- Reload the task or save if the behaviour is repeatable.
- Compare the issue with recent Steam News.
- Record the version and exact steps before reporting it.
How many soldiers do you need?
There is no universal published number for every stage. The right balance depends on colony population, transport demand, current equipment, expedition risk, and version-specific tuning.
Use the bottleneck as your guide. If logistics stop when soldiers deploy, retain more at the base. If expeditions fail despite a stable colony, improve equipment, supplies, research, or deployment strength.

FAQ
**Are soldiers only for fighting?** No. Steam update notes also connect them with work assignments and resource transport.
**Why are soldiers not following?** Check command state, current assignment, path, unit count, and recent positioning updates.
**What is the best squad?** A permanent best squad is not documented; match personnel and equipment to your current objective and version.
**Can deploying soldiers hurt the colony?** It can reduce labour available for transport or other duties, so check critical jobs before leaving.
